Eden Valley Young Angler Event,
Sponsored by John Norris of Penrith and three Eden Valley angling clubs, Kirkby Stephen, Penrith and Appleby, REDFA along with Borderlines hosted the Eden Valley young angler event on Holme Farm on Appleby Angling Association water. Twenty six participants turned up on the day with some from the last years event, the weather was just beautiful.
Introductions and safety talk over the group were divided into four smaller groups which weer rotated throughout the day with everyone having a go at everything.
An entomology session with Chris was followed by a roll casting session with Geoff, an overhead casting session with Derek and a double Spey casting session with fishing with Glyn.
Everyone did a remarkable job.
It was really nice to watch young people who had never cast before actually begin to fish safely and effectively.
The river was very low due to no rainfall for weeks and with the bright and hot weather it was always going to be difficult to catch fish.
Everybody had some good fun, some of the parents were getting involved too.
At the end of the day there were prizes handed out to the best improver from each section. Thank to Mike Ashwin for overall organising of the day, there was a big demand from the participants to do this again and soon!
